Black Women in STEM at the Discovery Museum
Ellice is honored to be painted at the Discovery Museum for her contributions in Ecology.
Because of this honor, she wanted to do more with Discovery Museum.
Ellice realized as the only black woman scientist painted in the Discovery Museum she wanted to see more representation. With the support of the Discovery Museum, they co-founded “Black Women in STEM”. This is a seasonal program that provides museum goers lectures and interactive workshops based on black women scientists past and present. This is meant not just as a historical tool, but to learn practical skills like using a protractor to measure angles like Katherine Johnson did or measuring distances like civil engineer Jamila H. Lindo.
She continues to create programming with Discovery Museum. Reach out if you are a black woman scientist wanting to be involved or wanting to know how you can attend future programming and support!
